A journalism student who witnessed a murder (and took some photos) in San Francisco is now trying to use California's journalist shield law to refuse to cooperate with police. 

As a witness to the crime, should he have to reveal what he saw? In a sense, he is a witness first and a journalist second - this seems different from revealing what a confidential source said after all...
