I am evaluating a variety of free statistics providers at the moment. If in propria persona seems to be loading slowly, or you notice lots of calls to external sites (especially external tracking scripts), now you’ll know why.

Does scientific peer review constitute censorship? There is a sense in which peer reviewers -- especially in the sciences -- do act in a kind of censorial capacity.

In that 1971 case, New York Times Co. v. United States, 403 US 713, the Court ruled against an attempt by the Nixon Administration "to enjoin the New York Times and the Washington Post from publishing the contents of a classified study entitled 'History of U. S. Decision-Making Process on Viet Nam Policy."
New law journal launches that focuses on open source
There's a new law journal in town: "The International Free and Open Source Software Law Review (IFOSS L. Rev.) is a collaborative legal publication aiming to increase knowledge and understanding among lawyers about Free and Open Source Software issues. Topics covered include copyright, licence implementation, licence interpretation, software patents, open standards, case law and statutory changes."
Google Books adds open-standard downloads
For anyone using any kind of electronic reader -- including a regular computer -- this addition to Google Books may well prove quite useful: EPUB as a download format.
Access to federal court records gets less free
I had always hoped that PACER--which I hear runs a surplus anyway--would trend downward in price as the cost of delivering electronic access decreases. Instead comes the news that the price will rise by 25%, from 8 to 10 cents per page.
